Health Benefits of Pomegranates

Periodically we will feature the benefits of an ingredient that is found in one or more of MonaVie’s products. The MonaVie products are developed specifically to be healthy and tasty so you can provide the best benefit for your body. Each ingredient is selected for the health qualities and benefits that it provides. Because of the great benefits that real fruits provide they are found in high quantities in MonaVie products.

Up there in the tree. You can see it. It is red and round and appealing to the eye. Reaching up you pluck the nearest one from the low hanging bow and admire the simplicity of the fruit. It practically calls to you with its unique shape like a flower bud ready to open up at a moment’s notice. No longer able to wait, you place your mouth over its flesh and bite.

Yep, the pomegranate is a marvel of nature to be sure, but not one to be approached by the novice consumer. These tasty fruits are quite different than the average ones we know from the super market. Typically a quick bite out of a fruit reveals a delectable flavor and a slight sugar hit. Even if that doesn’t work, usually removing a layer (or two if you’re a coconut) will solve the issue. However, the pomegranate’s secret doesn’t lie in the flesh, inside or outside, of the fruit.

The true flavor and benefits come from the arils surrounding the seeds. These juicy shells are literally encasing every seed in the fruit – and that is nearly 600 seeds per ripened fruit! These arils are tangy and sweet with a hidden crunchy center (the seed itself). In many countries around the world the arils are plucked from the flesh of the pomegranate and pressed for the delicious juice they contain inside – a truly fantastic drink for anyone.

More over, the benefits of the pomegranate have come to light in recent years and not only have made head lines, but have changed the way juices affect our diets. The juice of the pomegranate is high in vitamin C (like an orange) and also in potassium (like bananas). They also contain a good amount of fiber to boot, making them an ideal choice for healthy eating such as MonaVie Essential. But there is more.

Pomegranates are a good source of three different polyphenol antioxidants, which is big news in the food and drug industry these days. Including tannins, anthocyanins and ellagic acid, these antioxidants are the equivalent of calling in the “big guns” or the biological mafia to take out your body’s problems. As they say, “Forget about it.”

That’s because antioxidants are your body’s key to overcoming cancer and other problems caused by free radicals. They are able to bond with the free radicals before the free radicals bond with your DNA or other sensitive structures. One little change at the end of a DNA strand and the cell that contains it could become cancerous. Having a strong supply of antioxidants (like those found in pomegranate juice) is essential to fighting off the negative and horrifically damaging effects of the free radicals.

Best of all, when consumed from one of MonaVie’s line of drinks, the pomegranate is coupled with other super fruits like the acai and goji berries to produce a cocktail of health. You get the power of each fruit in every glass you drink and don’t have to travel around the globe or even your supermarket to get it.

What is AcaVie?

acavieCollaborating with some of the top government researchers MonaVie combined their patented freeze-dried acai berry powder and puree with a polyphenolic compound, Enlivenox.  Enlivenox is the polyphenolic compound which has 10 times the power of acai alone.

Acai is one of the worlds most talked about superfoods.  Amazonians have prized this fruit for centuries, because of its health benefits.  The nutrient content of the acai berry is top notch.  It contains phytonutrients, antioxidants, vitamins, amino acids, and trace minerals.  All of these things works together to create an enormous amount of nutrition for your body.

To ensure the highest nutritional content possible, Acavie goes through some intense testing.  There is a patented process that allows the most vital of nutrients to be locking into the blend.  The highest quality acai available is used – freeze fried on location to ensure the most nutrients possible are kept.  Acavie also contains Enlivenox delivering even more polyphenols than any other competing acai companies.

In each of their products MonaVie uses their patented acai blend, Acavie, to give their customers the benefits of the added polyphenols and nutrients.

Is harvesting the acai berry destructive to the Amazon Rainforest?

amazon rainforest monavie harvest acaiThe short answer is that MonaVie‘s harvesting practices don’t impact the Amazon Rainforest. The acai berry is a very profitable and ecologically sound product for the local population. No one has to slash and burn the crops or continuously cut down forests to make room for another set of farms when the first starts to slow down. This is because the trees that grow the acai berry produce the fruit year-round and therefore support a good long-term relationship for nature and farmers. The locals who work with MonaVie have agreed to grow the fruit under the best preservation practices possible and support natural and human growth. This way everybody and everything come out better in the end.

What is MonaVie Essential?

MonaVie Essential is a fantastic juice blend of nineteen amazing fruits including the trademarked AcaVie. AcaVie is the purest form of acai available – outside of the Amazon of course. It is designed to not only promote a healthy body, but also to ward off the effects of aging and free radicals. Containing fiber and vitamins A,C and E, this blend is a guaranteed hit with your body and taste buds.

Included in the drink are the following fruits: acai, acerola, apple, aronia, banana, bilberry, black currant, blueberry, camu camu, cranberry, cupuacu, grape, jabuticaba, kiwi, maqui, pear, pomegranate, prune, and wolfberry.

Why Do the Ingredients List Acai as “Freeze Dried”?

Production Freeze Dryer

Like any true fruit picked at the peak of freshness and taste, an unfortunate property of the acai berry is that it spoils rather quickly. This isn’t so much of a problem for the Amazonians who can harvest and eat it on the same day, but those of us thousands of miles away it creates a problem. So unless you were planning on living in the thick of the rainforest you wouldn’t be able to benefit from the amazing nutrients of the berry.

However, by freeze drying the berries on location MonaVie is able to preserve the nutrients and antioxidant fighting properties that the berries contain. Unlike picking the fruit early (a common tactic in the fruit and vegetable industry) to keep it from over-ripening before delivery, the freeze drying means that the fruit will also contain the delicious flavor that consumers enjoy when drinking or eating from the MonaVie family of products.

What is Acai?

Bushel of Acai Berries

The acai (ah-sigh-ee) berry comes from the acai palm tree found in the Brazilian rainforest. It is about one to one and a half inches in diameter and is a dark purple color. The acai berry looks similar to a grape and has a large seed in the middle, but rather than hanging from a vine it hangs from a tree.

Looking at those trees, a spectator will see hundreds of acai berries cascading down each palm frond in a chain of purple. This gorgeous image from Mother Nature only begins to hint at the real beauty found within the fruit itself.

The acai berry is renowned for its antioxidant and other health properties which are noted by nutritionists and scientists alike. Because of its powerful source of nutrients, the berry makes up for 42% of the Amazonian diet. Through modern science we have discovered that nutrients are most easily absorbed when they come from whole food sources such as the acai berry.

Just a few of the many vitamins and minerals we know exist in the fantastic little fruit include Vitamins A and C, Calcium, Iron, and Fiber. Think of all the cereal companies have to do in order for a serving of their cereal to have the same potency and you can get it through a berry.
